The Tour

Motoring around the perimeter of Put-in-Bay Harbor highlights the historical and geographical elements which contribute to the setting's character and beauty.  The captain will review local highlights, historical perspectives, and how Put-in-Bay Harbor continues to fuel the local economy while providing a lovely haven for marine enthusiasts of all types. During the tour, your captain will also answer questions like 'when was the last time that South Bass Island and Gibraltar Island were a single island?'  'How many people perished when the beautiful steamer PUT-IN-BAY (pictured on the left) ended in the fiery demise (shown on the right)?'

Departures & Booking Details

No reservations are needed for the Harbor Tour.  You simply board the water taxi located at the end of the Boardwalk Restaurant at 1:30 pm on Friday, September 24.  A USCG licensed captain will collect a $10 fee during the boarding process.  The water taxi can take a maximum of 20 people.  If more than 20 people wish to take the tour; the captain will repeat the tour at 2:30 pm and 3:30pm.

Perry’s Monument

After taking the harbor tour you may want to mosey on over to Perry’s Monument.  The monument hasn’t changed much since it was completed in 1915.  However, in recent years the US Park Service added a very nice visitors center which is located just southwest of the monument.  The visitors center has a movie theater, a diorama showing the Battle of Lake Erie as well as a souvenir store that’s a cut above most others.  The visitors center also has a full-scale statue of Oliver Hazard Perry that the US mint copied for their State Quarters Program as illustrated below.
